Thornton coronavirus testing site closed this week but back before Christmas

The testing site on Ashdell car park, adjacent to Ashdell Bowling Club in Thornton, was set up last Thursday (December 10), and tests were available by appointment only until yesterday (Sunday December 13.)

Anyone showing symptoms of Covid-19 is encouraged to make an appointment to visit the mobile units for a test.

The site was set up to test people with symptoms of coronavirus, not as part of a mass testing programme.There will be no mobile sites available in Wyre this week, but the unit on Ashdell car park will reopen for appointments on Christmas Eve.

A Wyre Council spokesman said: "The site is an appointment only drive-through testing site.

"It will operate again from Thurs December 24 to Sunday December 27. The car park will be closed on the morning of Wednesday December 23 to the evening of Sunday December 27.

"Advance notice of these closures are currently on display in the car park. When the testing schedule for future months are released any further closures will again be advertised on site.

"If a local resident requires a Covid test, they can book online at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by phoning 119.

"The Ashdell site will come up as an option for the dates they are operational."
