"As the demand for help and support grows, so does the need to recruit and retain more workers to deliver high quality care and support."

She added the sector urgently needed people with "empathy and compassion" to provide vital services.

Christopher Meadows, 47, from Blackpool, has taken up a new career in social care after 30 years working in the hospitality industry.

He said: "This is a job I really want to do and I would like to complete my level two and level three qualifications and have a long term career in social care.

"It’s a big change from working in hospitality, but there are similarities in terms of working with people and making sure their needs are met."

Recruits will receive full training and support, and there are also positions for cooks, kitchen assistants, cleaners, maintenance workers, administrators and qualified clinical roles such as nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
