Blackpool worst in region for antibiotics use
Figures released by Public Health England show a marked increase in resistance to antibiotics over the past five years, partly blamed on a rise in prescriptions.
Blackpool had the highest rate of antibiotic prescribing in the north west in the second quarter of this year, prompting a plea from Dr Amanda Doyle, the town clinical commissioning group (CCG)’s chief clinical officer.

Hide AdShe said: “We have an amazing immune system that can fight most infections on its own given time and plenty of rest to do its job. Antibiotics are seen as a quick fix but if we become resistant to them they won’t work when needed.”
