Great Arley School, in Holly Road, Thornton, hopes to build the block on a piece of spare land once it has cleared existing timber playground kit.

An application has been lodged with Wyre Council.

Great Arley’s business manager Gemma Anderson said the school had been fund-raising for the project, which will include a green screen and recording studio.

She added: “It will help us to improve the pupils’ life skills, self-expression and confidence and even help with potential employability. It will add to our pupils’ inclusion.”

A statement by Preston-based architecture firm Cassidy and Ashton said: “The overall appearance of the new classroom ... will be of a modern contemporary design, with high quality construction material sympathetic to the character of the area.”

Work will start as soon as planners give the nod, and will follow a outside gym that was opened in July 2018.
