The company said the changes to services were in line with the number of customers travelling, which has reduced by over 75 per cent as people follow government guidance to only travel if it is absolutely necessary.

The firm previously announced that bus services would reduce from Sunday, March 29.

But it said no bus routes will be removed and the main changes will be reductions to the frequency of services during the daytime when there were very few people using bus services.

Also a £1.50 flat fare for all single journeys will come into force from Sunday to make it easier and cheaper for customers.

Blackpool Transport said it had so far ensured that all key workers who must travel have been able to do so.

The latest changes will still mean that this is the case, but workers are being advised to plan ahead and leave extra time for journeys.

Jane Cole, managing director at Blackpool Transport, said “We are reducing our services to make sure we can protect the vitally important journeys that key workers need to make.

"By reducing the frequency of services, we are able to reduce the number of staff required to operate and provide stability for customers who need us most.”

It said early morning journeys will not be drastically reduced and that there will still be services running in to the evening for workers finishing late at night.
