Brave visitors stepping into Blackpool’s Tower Dungeon are being prepared for an extra fright as the spooky attraction gears up for Halloween.

The dungeons have been taken over by an army of scarecrows – and more than a pumpkin or two – in the run up to All Hallows Eve.

Tower staff spent hours last week preparing the dark depths of the iconic building for the special shows, dubbed the Festival of Souls, which will run until November 6.

And that involved mountains of pumpkins to be distributed around the attraction.

On arrival, guests are invited to sign their souls over to Stingy Jack, a playfully-menacing guide who leads you through 700 years of history before descending into the dungeons. Jack opens the gates for the ghouls of the Fylde coast to escape, bringing 700 years of history to life.

From plague doctors to witch trials, there are plenty of scares and shocks along the way.

And when the lights go out, a ghostly shock awaits.

Kenny Mew, general manager of The Blackpool Tower, said: “We have been working hard to create Blackpool Tower Dungeon’s spookiest Halloween show yet.

“Festival of Souls is great fun – you’ll be left both petrified and delighted when you meet our scarecrows.”
