Welcome return for Anna MacDonald

Anna MacDonald, who has been earning rave reviews since releasing her debut album in 2010, grew up on the Isle of Skye but she spent a week every year on the Fylde coast.

“My uncle – my mum’s youngest brother – lived in St Annes with his wife and children – still does actually,” she said.

“I really used to love going there...unlike Skye, it has actual sand on the beach and it doesn’t rain all the time. I’m looking forward to going back.”

St Annes Folk Club takes place at the Pavilion Cafe, with doors opening at 7.30pm on Saturday and the music starting at 8pm. Tickets are £5.

Supporting MacDonald is Bury guitarist and singer Ian Sidebottom, while Steve Canavan – a Gazette columnist who runs the folk club – will compere the evening and perform a few tunes.

“It will be another good night,” said Steve, whose club has been a sell-out each month since it was launched last year.

“Anna is a terrific artist, who has a lovely voice and is very good at keeping an audience entertained.

“At the moment she’s recording an album which is being mixed in LA – that tells you all you need to know about how highly thought of she is.”
