100 years of music in memory of the Great War effort

Featuring the award winning Thornton Cleveleys Brass Band and 30 voices of the Blackpool Male Voice Choir, the event brought many memories of the Great War.

There was plenty of lively music from Broadway, The Beatles and Elvis, plus favourites of the time.

Both the choir, under the baton of Haley Tarry, with excellent accompanist Ian Whalley, and the band, led by musical director Steve Simpson, were brilliant. Their rendition of Flanders Field made your hairs stand on end.

Special mention must be made of Paul Cooper’s top class trumpet solos.

The concert finished with community singing and the roof was nearly lifted off with Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia.

Some emotive poems were read with passion by Christopher Beverley, together with letters from soldiers in the battle fields. Overall a fitting tribute to the eight million men who gave their lives.
