A TALENTED couple make their debut on the stage of Blackpool’s Grand theatre this week.

Husband and wife Leo and Jeanette Appleton are members of Blackpool Operatic Players, and will be playing opposite each other on stage when the curtain goes up next Wednesday on the society’s production of Guys and Dolls.

Leo will be playing Nathan Detroit, an inveterate gambler. The role was played in the movie version by Frank Sinatra.

Jeanette is playing his long-suffering fiancée of 14 years, Adelaide Adams, a performer at the Hot Box Cabaret.

It is a role she has played before, but this is the couple’s first show with the Players.

Leo and Jeanette are also members of St Annes Operatic Society, where they have enjoyed lead roles in many shows.

Leo has also played dame in pantomime with Our Lady Star of the Sea Operatic Society, and is hoping to appear in that role with them later this year.

Jeanette has also had great success as a director, working with Our Lady’s Youth Theatre for many years.

Both are seasoned performers, as they have been treading the boards for more than 30 years, and it was their love of the stage that brought them together.

Their hobby has also been passed on to their children, Sarah and Joe, who also had lead roles when Blackpool Operatic Players presented Thoroughly Modern Millie four years ago.

Guys and Dolls is at The Grand from Wednesday through to the following Saturday, April 16.

Performances are nightly at 7.30pm, with matinees on the Thursday and the Saturday. For ticket prices and details of concessions available, call the Grand box office on (01253) 290190.
