More than 1,000 Fleetwood folk took part in the celebration after 10 months of meticulous planning for a stunning lantern parade and ceremony.
Organisers pledged the event would be bigger and better than ever before, and business owners and those attending agreed they’d kept their promise.
Now, traders are keeping their fingers crossed that the twinkling displays will seriously help business in the run up to Christmas this year and in the future.
There are five weeks to go and shops are hoping the early switch-on will act as a springboard to lift trade in the festive rush.
Chairman of Fleetwood Chamber of Trade Derek Eaton said the superb display of lights and the community turn out on Saturday shows that Fleetwood is getting up and fighting back.
