Fleetwood really got into the Christmas mood at the weekend with two events to capture the festive spirit.
Saturday saw the second annual lantern parade in the town centre before the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights, performed by 11-year-old Chloe New.
The parade, which included Father Christmas on his sleigh and the cast of the upcoming production of Snow White at the Marine Hall, marched the length of Lord Street and North Albert Street to the Euston Gardens – accompanied by the Old Boys Band.
Coun Emma Anderton, treasurer of Fleetwood Festive Lights Committee, said: “It shows what a great community spirit we have in Fleetwood and it’s nice for the children.
“The heritage tram was a wonderful addition and I would like to thank Fleetwood Town Council for contributing to the extra lights for the trees in planters dotted around the town.
“Thanks also to those shopkeepers who have committed to our town and town centre for displaying their Christmas trees, I hope people support those businesses in the run up to Christmas.”
Sunday also saw the first Fleetwood Christmas Market which drew in 3,000 people at the Marine Hall.
Chris Wyatt, arts and events officer at Wyre Council said: “It’s gone extremely well, all the traders are very happy with their sales.
“It’s been a very successful event which has brought people in and the atmosphere’s really been nice.”
