FLEETWOOD’S popular Royalettes morris dancing troupe are gearing up for a promising 2012.
The iconic dance group have represented Fleetwood for decades at competitions throughout the North West and are still going strong.
But the group are keen to ensure they don’t rest on their laurels and are being guided by the new team of Sammy Hemphill and Shirley Farrington.
Sammy said: “We are really looking forward to the coming year, we are quite packed out.
“We currently have about 40 members ranging from two-years-old to adulthood but we are always on the look out for new members.
“It doesn’t matter if they have experience or not, training will be provided at every level. We are the fluffy morris dancers, not the ones with batons, they are called majorettes, and it’s all about dancing and being a member of a team.”
The troupe is split into three sections tinies, junior 2 and senior 2. Aside from the dancing, the Royalettes is a sociable organisation with trips to theme parks, pantos and parties throughout the year. And towards the end of the year, the troupe alwasy takes part in the ultimate dance competition which takes in morris dancers from across the North West.
The Royalettes practice twice a week at The Loft (Legion) in Copse Road, every Monday night and also at the United Reformed Church Hall on a Thursday night from 6pm to 9pm.
