Ballroom dancing should be officially included in the Olympics, say fans.

The call is being supported by Blackpool Tower Ballroom – the venue famous for hosting TV’s Strictly Come Dancing each year.

Dancing is athletic and technical, teaching discipline and requiring hard work, dedication and training – fitting perfectly with the Olympic ethos

A petition has been launched to persuade Olympic chiefs to incorporate it into the world’s biggest sports competition.

After years of pressure from dancers, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has now officially recognised ballroom dancing as a Dancesport.

But ballroom experts want them to go one quickstep further – and include it in the Olympic Games competition.

Blackpool Tower Ballroom spokeswoman Rachel Sipes said: “Dancing is athletic and technical, teaching discipline and requiring hard work, dedication and training – fitting perfectly with the Olympic ethos.”
