PREPARATIONS are now well under way for Fleetwood’s annual bonfire extravaganza.

The event is being organised by Fleetwood Rotary Club and is again being held on the Rossall School field off Westway, on Saturday November 5.

The gates will open at 6pm, and popular local group, Trident, will entertain the crowd until the lighting of the bonfire and the beginning of the spectacular firework display.

Refreshments are available and admission is £2.

Rotarian, Police Sergeant Richard Newson said: “We want everyone to come along and enjoy a fantastic celebration in a safe environment.

“To ensure the safety of all, no personal fireworks, sparklers or alcohol are allowed.

“Our thanks go to Rossall School and Farmer Parr’s for the use of the field and to all the community groups who have helped in the organisation.”

As preparations continue for this year’s community event, organisers are offering free tickets to children who are nominated by their school as being a shining example to others.

Among this week’s sparkling winners are Ben Garbett from Flakefleet Primary School, Stephanie Johnson from Shakespeare and Courteney Cutter from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.

Last year’s event proved a huge success and the Rotarians are hoping for another good turn out this year.
