Galleon Bar owner Stephen Pierre says two young guitarists have both secured places to study at prestige academies.

Former Blackpool and The Fylde College student Ally Pickering, 19, impressed Stephen two years ago when he spotted him play guitar at The Galleon’s open mic session- so he asked him to help form house band The Galleonairs. Ally’s since joined the Conservatorium of Amsterdam - and also performed with the Amsterdam Funk Orchestra. Stephen adds: “He has the potential to become a world class musician. I’m pleased we offered him a platform to showcase his talents.”

Stephen’s latest find Jake Johnson, 17, came on Ally’s recommendation and is currently working on an album, Dysfunctional, with fellow Booth Criminals bass player Martin Booth. The album is due for release on April 20.

“Jake has been offered a place with the Institute of Contemporary Music in London.

“This is one of London’s finest specialist music institutions,” adds Stephen. “Several of London’s top session players of today are graduates of the ICM.”

Jake, who has also auditioned for Sky Arts TV Show Guitar Star, is also performing at this year’s Jazz N Blues festival at the Winter Gardens from April 9-10.
