By the evening gusts could reach 41mph on the Lancashire coast, according to the Met Office.

And those heading to the West End Proms at Lytham could also be in for a soaking, with heavy rain due to sweep through Lancashire at around 9pm.

The Red Arrows, due to perform at this afternoon’s air show, posted on social media they are still on schedule for a 4pm appearance along Blackpool Promenade.

The air display team did, however, admit conditions were going to be ‘breezy’.

A screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, at Lytham Festival was cancelled on Wednesday due to high winds.

Organisers said they might begin tonight’s concert earlier than planned should conditions deteriorate.

A statement said: “Due to adverse Weather Conditions that have been forecast for later on this evening, we MAY plan to start tonight’s show slightly earlier.

“This means that support from Ferris and Milnes would be scheduled to start at 5:30pm and the main performances would start at 6:30pm.

“So, give yourself plenty of Picnic Prep time and head down from 5pm to soak up the atmosphere of Last Night of The Proms presents West End Proms.”
