Town’s injury crisis in defence resulted in manager Steven Pressley asking the midfielder to fill in at right-back.

But the 24-year-old says he is happy to play in any position as long as he is on the pitch and helping 18th-placed Town in their relegation battle.

He said: “As long as I am on the pitch I am happy. If that means playing in midfield or at right-back, it makes no difference to me as long as I am in the team.

“You have different things you have to do but it is almost the same at the end of the day. It is just football and I am enjoying playing in defence.”

Nirennold teed-up Ash Hunter to cancel out Matt Done’s cross in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

But he says he would rather have all three points than an assist.

He said: “I thought we played well but we are disappointed because we felt we should have won.

“It was the wrong result in the end. We should have got the three points but unfortunately we only got one.

“It was nice to get an assist but the most important thing is to win.

Nirennold says that Pressley’s men are raring to go and ready to face League One leaders Burton Albion on Saturday.

He added: “We have rested and we have worked towards Saturday’s game.

“Burton are top of the table and are a good side, but if we work as hard as we have been doing in recent games we can beat any team.”
