Simon Grayson: No midweek match but it's no easy week for Fleetwood players

Town welcomed a rare blank Tuesday – they play on the next four – following their long weekend trip to Plymouth Argyle, where the Cod Army suffered their first defeat under Grayson’s stewardship.

Fleetwood’s 51-year-old boss will utilise reserve games to get much-needed minutes into the legs of some of his players.

Grayson said: “We’ll get some work into the players this week. There’s a reserve game as well, in which some who have not played will get some

gametime.

“We’ll prepare for Charlton (Athletic, Saturday’s visitors), who are another team in and around you and another good test for us.

“I’m learning about the players every time I see them train or play.

“They have accepted what we are trying to do and it’s just a case of trying to tweak a few things to keep improving.”

Learning has been a theme of Grayson’s time at the club so far.

His first game brought a draw with Bristol Rovers – the club strongly linked with Town’s previous team boss Joey Barton to fill their vacancy – before a statement win over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday last week.

And Grayson feels that 3-1 success set the standard. He said: “We’ve said that we set the bar with the Doncaster game and we don’t want to slip below that.

“We want to go further and further and keep improving game by game because we’ve got the players capable of doing it.

“With the right attitude and with a little bit of luck here and there, we could have won at Plymouth as well. “
