Rosler: No need for Fleetwood to sign another striker

Town’s head coach was still coy about what is believed to be an ankle injury sustained by the striker during the win at Northampton 10 days ago.

Rosler says the club know what the injury is but the 24-year-old (above) must undergo more tests.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 home win over AFC Wimbledon, Rosler said: “We need to see about Conor McAleny – how long it will be. But what we are told at the moment we don’t need to bring anybody extra in. Only if anything changes might we rethink.

“I thought he would play (on Saturday) but he did not have a chance. We already know what he has but there are more tests to be done with him. We need to get it completely right again because we need to bring him to the same level he was in the last two to three weeks.

“He came through a pre-season where there is always a risk of injury. He didn’t pick up anything. He was very strong and very sharp.

“Unfortunately it was an impact injury and you can’t do anything against that but he gets his head up and he will be OK again.”

Though it is still not clear when McAleny will return, Rosler’s other strikers are stepping up to the plate.

Devante Cole has grabbed his chance over the last two games, scoring the winner at Northampton and a double to sink Wimbledon.

Saturday also saw Ash Hunter reclaim a spot on the bench and Rosler says he was his old self in his cameo.

It was also a big day for development squad forward Ashley Nadesan. While his strike partner Alex Reid started his two months on loan at Wrexham with back-to-back goals, Nadesan made his League debut as a late substitute against the Dons.

With competition rife ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers, Rosler said: “It is very important that the players who didn’t start the season do not give up. We have 50-plus games this season and so many things can happen.

“Devante and Ash Hunter are in the picture again. On Saturday Ash Hunter looked like the old Ash Hunter. I hope that will continue.”

Players Cian Bolger and Bobby Grant will attend the fans’ forum in the Parkside Suite at Highbury tomorrow. They will be open to question along with Rosler, chairman Andy Pilley and chief executive Steve Curwood from 6.30pm.
