Liverpool defender signs for Fleetwood

The teenager, who joined Joey Barton's side on a season-long loan from Liverpool on Wednesday, has experience of the strong coastal gusts which can affect games at Fleetwood's home, likening it to a "wind machine".

In addition to playing two cup-ties for the Reds' senior side last year, Boyes twice played for their Under-21s against EFL opposition in the Leasing.com Trophy.

That included the game at Fleetwood, which Liverpool lost on penalties, and the Welshman recalled: “I’ve played here once already for Liverpool. I know what it’s like and I’ve had a little bit of experience against the team.

“The wind machine was on that day, of course! That will be a factor in our games. I’ll have to get used to that and it should be all right."

However, blustery the conditions, Boyes insists that calmness is key to his character on the field.

He added: “I’d like to say I’m a calm, composed defender, who likes to play out from the back and wants to help out the team in any way possible.

“I can play in a two or a three at centre-back, preferably at the left side of a three but I can do any job the manager needs me to do."

And what matters most to the Wales Under-19 international is playing as many matches as possible.

Boyes said: "I got the taste of it with a couple of games for Liverpool and it made me want to knuckle down and get as many games as possible.

“It’s all about my development and getting as many games under my belt in a real men’s league."
