Keeper Maxwell joins PNE

Preston North End have made Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Chris Maxwell their first signing of the summer.

Maxwell has signed a three-year deal which will take effect from July 1 when his Fleetwood contract runs out.

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present with Fleetwood for the last two seasons and made 124 consecutive appearances for them.

He said: “It was not a difficult decision to make in signing for Preston.

“This is a massive club, the fan base and history speaks for itself.

“Preston have got a very experienced manager and staff who I’m looking forward to working with.

“Making the move provides a fantastic opportunity.”

St Asaph-born Maxwell started his career with Wrexham, making 78 appearances for them.

He joined Fleetwood in the summer of 2012 but had to wait for his debut with them.

Maxwell had loan spells with Wrexham and Cambridge United, before playing for Fleetwood for the first time in February 2014.

North End will bring in another goalkeeper as well as Maxwell this summer, having released Chris Kirkland and seen Anders Lindegaard return to West Bromwich Albion at the end of his loan spell.
