But Barton refused to be critical of his side, though this was fifth defeat in seven League One games on the road this term.

Town's head coa h said: “As long as my lads keep playing that kind of football, there’s absolutely no issue – we’re going to be a tough team for anybody to play in this division.

“We’ve come away from home and spent 88 of the 90 minutes pushing the opposition back and dictating the game to them.

“The lads have done everything right barring the most important bit, which is putting the ball in the back of the net. They’ve played very, very well on a really difficult pitch.

“We have to accept that we weren’t good enough to score a goal tonight but, again, there are lots of things to be pleased with.

"A momentary lapse of concentration from a set-play has cost us.”
