Fylde coast youth football round-up

Lytham Juniors Home Heat had led for most of the season but Poulton always had games in hand and went into Sunday’s season finale needing to win for the title.

Their opponents were St Annes Greens and Sydney Sullivan grabbed a hat-trick in Lytham’s 4-1 win.

Max Resina scored the other as Poulton completed a league and Hogan Plate double.

In the division’s the other game, Spirit of Youth (Tyler Davison, Robert Flanagan) drew with Foxhall (Dylan Ward2) 2-2.

The Under-13 Alpha Gold section also went to the wire as the top two went head to head in a winner takes all game,

Foxhall had to win to pip Lancashire champions BJFF Blades, who won the Hogan Cup too last week.

Kaiden Shorrocks scored a brace as the Hoops won 2-1 to be crowned champions. Spencer Phillips replied.

Fleetwood Town could have capitalised if that game had been drawn but they fell at the last hurdle, losing 4-3 to Poulton thanks to Matthew Seal, Aaron Pope, Theo Mihill and Leo Biviano.

Fraser Hallas scored for Thornton Cleveleys Reds and Harry Stanley for Squires Gate as the teams shared the spoils 1-1.

Stanley also scored in midweek as Gate drew 3-3 at Poulton, with Dan Fryer and Matthew Kelsey also on target.

Matthew Seal, Aaron Pope and William Hooper netted for the hosts.

Blades beat YMCA 4-0 thanks to Spencer Phillips (2), Josh Edwards and Donny Barrat.

In the Under-18 division, there was an inter-club derby as Fleetwood Town and Fleetwood Town Rangers played off for the runners-up spot, Rangers coming away with a 3-1 win.

In the Under-13 Silver division, BJFF Vipers secured runners-up place with an 8-2 win against FC Rangers courtesy of Jake Wilson’s hat-trick and further goals from Harley Man (2), Luke Roper (2) and Macawli Hannah. Matthew Guy grabbed both Rangers replies.

Finally, Dominic Turner scored a hat trick and Alfie Renshaw a brace as Kirkham Reds beat Lytham Maroons 7-0. An own goal and a Jack Iddeson strike completed the scoring.

YMCA Under-12s lifted the Poulton and District Primary League’s Coulton Cup with a 3-0 victory over Kirkham Juniors in the final at Fleetwood Town FC.

Having already claimed both Phase 1 and 2 league championships, YMCA concluded an excellent season by completing the treble.

The first half was evenly contested but YMCA reached half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to Ross Hurst, who spectacularly fired home a 20-yard free-kick.

YMCA continued to have the initiative after the restart and doubled their lead with a strike by Harry Gledhill.

Kirkham tried to get back into the game but found the YMCA defence solid and determined, and the issue was put beyond doubt when Daniel Slawson bagged a third goal for YMCA.

Ross Hurst received the man of the match award and Noah Mawene was also outstanding, with Ben Leigh notable in an impressive YMCA team performance.

n YMCA missed out on further silverware when the Under-13 girls’ team were beaten finalists in the North Valley and Burnley Unity League Cup.

They were beaten 4-0 by Lostock Hall in the showpiece at Prairie Sports Village in Burnley. Going into the game, both sides were confident of victory but YMCA started slowly and seemed to be second to most balls.

The strong Lostock Hall side made them pay by taking the lead in the 10th minute.

YMCA were struggling to find their usual fluency and despite their best efforts it was Lostock Hall who netted again to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

YMCA came out showing much greater purpose for the second half and almost reduced the deficit when Isabelle Kells powered a left foot shot goalwards from corner from Ellie McNally but the Lostock keeper to pull off an outstanding save.

This seemed to knock the heart out of YMCA and they fell further behind when they were punished on the break.

YMCA now had to press forward, and although they tried to find a goal it was not to be and Lostock sealed the issue with a fourth goal in the closing minutes.

Honey Griffith, Lara Pilling and Olivia Neal were notable throughout for YMCA, have a chance to bounce back on Sunday when the two teams meet again in a league title decider at Lytham’s Seafield Road.
