Cian Bolger was a man in demand throughout the summer

The 26-year-old has a year remaining on his contract with boss Joey Barton unaware of any discussions for a fresh deal.

The centre-half joined Town on a free transfer from Southend United in the summer of 2016 and was the club’s player of the year when they finished fourth in the 2016/17 term.

Despite reported interest from Championship side’s Rotherham United and Hull City and late attention from Scotland as SPL side Hibernian were rumoured to be trying to lure him north of the border, Bolger has remained at Highbury.

With Barton bringing in new skipper Craig Morgan and Preston North End loanee Tommy Spurr, Town have four senior centre-halves to pick from.

As they prepare to host Bradford City today Bolger and Spurr – who started Town’s 4-0 defeat at Leicester City in the League Cup on Tuesday – are expected to make way.

Two players who will not be in contention are Joe Maguire and Jack Sowerby, who clinched loan deals to League Two on deadline day.

Maguire joined Crawley Town until January 1 with Sowerby joining another Town loanee, Ashley Nadesan, at Carlisle United.

In contrast, Barton’s shopping was already done before deadline day with Norwich City left-back James Husband becoming his 11th and final signing.

He joins fellow loanees Ched Evans, Lewie Coyle, Jason Holt and Spurr, with Craig Morgan, Dean Marney and Paul Jones free transfer arrivals.

Out-of-contract Tranmere Rovers duo James Wallace and Eddie Clarke also came in, as did former loanee Chris Long.

Heading through the exit door were Nathan Pond, Chris Neal, George Glendon, Ricardo Kip, Victor Nirennold, Markus Schwabl , Toumani Diagouraga ,Luke Higham, Sebastien Des Pres and Alex Reid, while Matty Urwin (Chorley), Billy Crellin (FC United) and Dan Mooney (Chester) sealed loan moves.

Wallace believes it could be a good season for Town as he bids to build on his debut at Leicester City today.

He said: “I’ve played most of my career at this level so this is what the league is about, it is tough.

“What the staff have brought and what the lads have brought in, you can see that in the results. I think it is going to be a positive season.”
