Devante Cole scored his first goal for Fleetwood in Town’s ‘poor’ 3-1 defeat at Walsall and now boss Steven Pressley has hinted that the striker might be elevated back into the starting XI.

Cole’s curling long range effort flew into the bottom right corner in the 84th minute but it was too little too late after Walsall had stormed to an unassailable 3-0 lead in the opening 60 minutes.

Cole entered the fray seconds after Romaine Sawyers made it three in the 58th minute.

And Pressley says former Manchester United star Andrew Cole’s son’s ‘lively’ 30 minute cameo has given him food for thought ahead of Sunday’s crunch relegation clash against League Two bound Crewe.

He said: “I felt that when Devante came on he gave us a real attacking impetus.

“I thought he gave a good reaction. I think he would have been disappointed he didn’t start at Walsall, I was mulling over it all week.

“To be fair to him he has given me food for thought.”

Centre-half Stephen Jordan was forced off in the 48th minute with a dead leg and Town’s star striker Wes Burns missed the Walsall game due to a hamstring injury and Pressley says he will be a doubt for the final game of the campaign.

He said: “We will asses Wes over the next couple of days. He will be a doubt, there is no doubt about that. But we will look at him and, fingers crossed, he may return.

“(Stephen) got a knock to the outside of his thigh. He had a dead leg at half-time and quite a lot of inflammation; we were concerned if he would see that through.”
