Fleetwood Town’s new wing wizard Ash Hunter hailed the Cod Army for their role in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Bradford and hopes the fans take that atmosphere to the Stadium of Light.
Town head to Sunderland on Saturday on the back of a heroic 2-1 win over Bradford.
Hunter set Ched Evans up for the first goal but Eoin Doyle levelled from the spot.
Hunter’s fellow forward turned winger Wes Burns was sent off for a challenge on Adam Chicksen just before the break but Town are appealing as replays show he won the ball before felling the Bradford man with his momentum.
But despite the one-man disadvantage, Hunter popped up with a winner in the 48th minute.
And the 22-year-old hot-shot praised the fans for their role as 11th man. He said: “It is nice to get off the mark at home with the first win and to hold on at the end was something that we did not do against Rochdale. It is a big improvement.
“The atmosphere really helped us, especially with the 10 men. It drove us on. I thought the fans were class.”
Hunter wants the fans to travel in their numbers to the ex-Premier League Black Cats. He added: “It is a big stadium and a good atmosphere there will help us.”
