The 22-year-old netted his third of the season for Town with a curling finish as they drew 1-1 at Highbury on Saturday.

He repaid Grayson’s decision to hand him a starting role in Town’s final home game of the 2020/21 campaign.

He was on course to make it three from three after putting them in front against MK Dons, only for the visitors to score a late equaliser which meant a point apiece.

It kept Grayson’s players 15th in the League One table going into the final game of the season on Sunday when Town make the trip to Ipswich (12pm).

Grayson said: “Ged’s done really well this season so far and he deserved that goal.

“We took him out of the team after he’d been in for quite a while, mainly just to give him a bit of a breather, and Barrie McKay was doing well in that number 10 role.

“I just felt Ged deserved to get back in the team, though. It was a good opportunity for him and, throughout the game, his link-up play was good and his work rate was good.

“His finish for the goal was excellent – it’s just a shame he didn’t take his second opportunity later in the game instead of taking a first touch that allowed the defender to get across and get a block in.”
