After Fleetwood Town’s strong start to the season, the next thing on keeper Alex Cairns’ radar is a shutout.

Town are yet to keep a competitive clean sheet in their opening four games of the season.

Joel Coleman’s injury against Wigan Athletic means Cairns has started in goal for the last two games with Burton Albion and Port Vale.

Though he wants to get his clean sheet tally off the mark for the season, extending the winning run will always be more important.

Cairns (pictured) said: “I pride myself on clean sheets, as do the back four.

“I’ve always said no matter how much I want a clean sheet, if we’re getting wins at a weekend I’ll take them over a clean sheet.

“The wins are what get you promoted at the end of the day but a clean sheet is definitely the next thing for me.

“It’s always nice to find form early on, especially with a new group.

“It is a new group of players, every season provides you with a new group of players and people to work with.

“If they can buy into that winning mentality that we’ve got at this football club then it only benefits us.

“They’ve bought into it brilliantly, we’ve signed some great lads.

“They’re great lads to have around the dressing room and they’re good to have around.

“We’ve signed some experience and some youth, so it’s been a good mix of both.

“They’re all adamant that they want to do well so it should be an exciting season.”

Town’s new signings have generally hit the ground running since arriving on the Fylde coast.

Former Rochdale man Callum Camps is already adding goals from the midfield area, Sam Stubbs has slotted into the backline despite his youth and Mark Duffy’s quality in the centre of midfield is also shining through.

The culture of the club is something that is very important to Fleetwood head coach Joey Barton.

Cairns believes that players need to have the right mentality in order to fit in at Highbury, both on and off the pitch.

“You can see a lot by people’s personality by the way they conduct themselves and I can honestly say that every single player has conducted themselves properly,” he said.

“They’ve given everything and that’s the minimum we expect here.

“In every successful team, the minimum is hard work and dedication, not just on the pitch but off it.

“You’ve got to be a good person and a good team-mate and that’s what we’ve built here.”
