Grayson came to Highbury at the end of January, having agreed a six-month contract with the club.

After winning only one of Grayson’s first six games in charge, Town head to Blackpool this afternoon in search of a fourth consecutive victory.

Grayson said: “I’m relaxed about the situation.

“If you keep doing well and the team are performing, it gives you a better opportunity.

“Andy (Pilley, chairman) might have somebody lined up, up his sleeve, that I and anyone else know nothing about. That’s just part and parcel of football.

“I’ve enjoyed working here. I enjoy working with Andy, we have a good relationship, and all you can do is keep doing the best that you can do to the best of your ability and see what that holds for you.

“If I didn’t think I could get a longer-term contract I don’t think I’d have taken the job.

“I’m here for the short-term but with a view to the long-term as well.”

Grayson arrived at Town with the club 14th in League One, nine points above the bottom four and the same margin from the top six.

The club had also seen Ched Evans depart to Preston North End and had only won one league game in two months.

Ahead of today’s reunion with Blackpool, Grayson feels people are now seeing the work that has taken place.

He said: “I got brought into the club to do that in the first place, just to settle it down.

“Longer-term, through the weeks and the months, you see teams reflect how I want to play. I think we’re getting to that stage now.

“It was all about taking small steps, moving things forward and getting to where we are now. From now, to the end of the season, it’s about kicking on.”

Town, however, have injury issues with Glenn Whelan and Charlie Mulgrew nursing Achilles problems.

Grayson said: “Glenn is out running, he’s probably still going to be out for a period of time.

“I’m not going to say how long because it’s something that is ongoing with his Achilles.

“Charlie is in a boot at the moment with his Achilles. Again, that is an ongoing process.

“Sometimes, when players are in a boot it isn’t anything major or long-term, but we’ll see how he is over the next period of time.”
