Fleetwood keeper Maxwell says he is leaving the club

The Welshman has made 110 league appearances for Town since joining from Wrexham in May 2012 and he has been an ever-present fixture all season as he helped Town retain their League One status.

The 25-year-old’s contract has come to an end and he says another footballing opportunity has come along that he could not turn down.

The shot-stopper has been linked to Championship club’s Preston North End and Huddersfield Town but did not reveal where he will be playing football next term.

He released a statement on Twitter thanking the fans for their support during his four year spell.

He said: “The season has ended thankfully with the much needed win over Crewe (on Sunday) and our survival in League One.

“It is however the end of my time with Fleetwood Town.

“It has been a fantastic four years full of brilliant memories but other football opportunities have come along that I can’t turn down.

“So I want to thank you all ‘the Cod Army’ for your personal support, encouragement and passion for the team.

“It has not been easy over the last few months but you kept us going right to the end home and away.

“There is more to come in the Fleetwood story and I will definitely be watching.

“I wish you all the very best of luck.”
