Fleetwood boss Simon Grayson warns: Ipswich Town will be wary of us at Highbury

The Cod Army are unbeaten in five league games, three back-to-back wins bookended by draws with Accrington Stanley and most recently Blackpool.

Tomorrow's 7.45pm opponents are in similarly positive form, having lost only once in their last five, winning three.

The Tractor Boys climbed into the top six with Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Plymouth Argyle, having installed Paul Cook as manager two weeks ago.

The former Wigan Athletic boss has overseen a win, a draw and a loss since entering the dugout at Portman Road, though the 54-year-old also watched Ipswich win from the stands at Accrington Stanley on the day of his appointment.

Town head coach Grayson said: “Paul Cook has gone in there and it will be another tough game for us.

“They have good players and should be in and around the top three or four without a shadow of a doubt – that’s why they have changed their manager.

“But as we’ve said over the last few weeks, other teams will be looking at us and thinking Fleetwood are a team on a good run, who have some good players, are very competitive and have an edge to them.

“So again we’ll prepare properly and hopefully will win the game.”

Town will be hoping to have both Callums available for tonight’s test, with top scorer Callum Camps missing out at the weekend and Callum Connolly seemingly nursing a knock at the end of the Blackpool game.

Grayson explained that selecting midfielder Camps would have risked aggravating a hamstring problem, while centre-back Connolly’s struggles were simply the result of putting his body on the line for the cause.

Grayson said: “Callum Camps was due to play but just after training he felt that his hamstring was a little tight, so we decided not to risk it because Sam Finley has been waiting and chomping at the bit to come into the team.

“I didn’t want to rule Callum out any longer than we needed to, so hopefully it’s one game and he’s available for Tuesday.

“If we’d played him and he’d broken down, he could have been out for four to six weeks.

“Callum Connolly got a couple of blocks and shots that have gone into his body and hurt him.

“But it also might have been a bit of fatigue and the same for a lot of players because this has been a tough schedule.

“That’s not just for us but for every club and we are pleased with the workrate and the attitude and application of the players.

“And if you don’t come out of a local derby with knocks and bruises you haven’t been competitive and done your job.”

Tuesday’s game completes a run of four successive Tuesday fixtures for Fleetwood. They can look forward to a rare free week following Saturday’s home clash with struggling Swindon Town.
