The midfielder said: “Obviously I’m very happy to be here.

“It was my first day, and just getting to be here and meet all the staff and all the boys was just great.

“Everyone has been great. I’ve been in this situation before going into new teams and all the boys have been great. It was great to get the first training session done.”

And the central midfielder has told the Cod Army what they can expect.

Holt said: “I’m going to hopefully bring a bit of energy to the team, get about the park and help the team as much as I can.”

Town’s other summer signing to date, full-back Eddie Clarke, also trained with his new team-mates for the first time.

Clarke was signed before Barton officially took charge.

Another player from Tranmere, midfielder James Wallace, trained with Town as a triallist yesterday.
