This evening’s final round of Championship matches will see the bottom three clubs confirmed.

Only a mathematical miracle can spare bottom club Hull City from a return to the third tier for the first time since 2005, though any two clubs from six could fill the other two relegation places.

Those in greatest danger are Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, who need victory over Brentford and Fulham respectively to have any chance of staying up. Both those clubs are vying for the second automatic promotion spot behind champions Leeds United.

Barnsley are second-bottom and face an immediate return to League One, while Wigan are currently 13th but face a 12-point deduction for going into administration. The Latics are, however, appealing that sanction.

Should Barnsley or Wigan win, they will be sweating at Luton Town and Charlton Athletic, though Birmingham City and Middlesbrough aren’t safe either.

It is being reported that Matt Gilks is to become Bolton Wanderers’ new goalkeeping coach and will be registered to play for the League Two club.

Gilks was a Blackpool team-mate of new Trotters boss Ian Evatt in the Premier League a decade ago and made six appearances for Fleetwood in the early weeks of last season.

Striker Jamille Matt (left) has joined Forest Green Rovers in League Two, having helped both Blackpool and Fleetwood to climb out of that division via the play-offs.

The Jamaican moved to Blackpool in 2016, after close to three years at Highbury. He spent most of his second Bloomfield Road season on loan at Grimsby Town before moving to Newport County.

Fleetwood Town have advertised two key roles on their backroom staff. The club is looking to appoint an academy manager and a first-team sports scientist.
