The technology was installed earlier this week and will be at Fleetwood to stay if they win the four-team play-off tournament as the Hawk-Eye system is used in all Championship matches.

Goal-line technology was introduced to English football for the 2013-14 season and had a near perfect record until last month's return of Premier League action.

Sheffield United were denied a clear goal in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, when the technology failed to notify referee Michael Oliver that the ball had crossed the line. The system 'lagged' and only alerted Oliver during the half-time break.

Town have used goal-line technology before, in their FA Cup third-round replay at Leicester City in January 2018. It was not in use for the initial tie at Highbury.

That replay was the first game in England to see a goal awarded by VAR, when Kelechi Iheanacho's second sealed the Foxes' 2-0 win.

The play-offs will see each team allowed five substitutions instead of the usual three. But to avoid extra stoppages, a team can only halt play three times to make substitutions, though they can also make changes at half-time.
