Graham Alexander believes former team-mate Stephen Jordan is the perfect match for Fleetwood Town.
The 31-year-old defender became the club’s eighth summer signing last week, putting pen to paper during the club’s pre-season tour of Austria.
And Alexander believes the former Manchester City and Burnley star brings just the experience and guile he needs.
“He’s been training with us since the end of last season,” revealed Alexander.
“He’s been around for the whole of the pre-season, so he knows the squad well.
“He’ll bring us a lot of experience and a lot of ability and that is what we were looking for.
“Stephen’s a fit lad and he’s shown that in training.
“All in all he’s a superb signing and he’ll fit right in with what we are trying to achieve here.”
Alexander knows all about Jordan’s abilities, having played alongside the full-back in the Burnley squad which won promotion to the Premier League and reached the semi-finals of the League Cup.
“He’s a great character to have around,” insisted Alexander.
“I know all about him from our time at Burnley. He’s a great pro and someone you want with you in the dressing room.”
With the start of the season just 17 days away, Alexander wouldn’t be drawn on whether his transfer business was complete.
But he revealed to The Gazette he was content with the playing staff he had assembled. “Who knows if it’s all done?” he said.
“You never say you’re finished because you’re always looking to improve.
“If you can find someone who brings that extra few per cent then you’ll look to make it happen. It’s never-ending.
“But saying that, if we had to start the season with the squad we have then I’d be happy. I think we’ve now got a competitive squad.
“We’ve got a good bunch and, from what I’ve seen so far, they have really gelled well.”
Town released a dozen professionals at the end of last season, including Andy Mangan, Barry Nicholson and Jamie McGuire, following their 13th-place finish.
Alexander has strengthened extensively in midfield, bringing in Matty Blair, Jeff Hughes, Steven Schumacher, Stewart Murdoch and Antoni Sarcevic.
He has also bolstered his numbers at the back with the acquisition of Jordan, alongside former Stevenage skipper Mark Roberts and Halifax youngster Liam Hogan.
Town start the season at home to Dagenham & Redbridge on August 3.
