In pictures: Discovering more about royal visits to the Fylde Coast

Local historian Richard Gillingham spoke to a packed Fleetwood Museum last week about royal visits to Fleetwood.

Such was the interest, Memory Lane delved into the archives to find out more about the occasion and, indeed, those elsewhere on the Fylde Coast.

Dick said: “Perhaps the most famous royal visit to Fleetwood came in September 1847, when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, returned from their holiday to Scotland, through the new port of Fleetwood. The great and the good of Lancashire were present to see the young Queen step onto County soil for the first time."
