A drone operator has captured the above video of an alleged 'big cat' prowling the British countryside.

Ashley May, 30, bagged the footage as he used his micro-drone on the playing fields of a college in Launceston, Cornwall.

While the animal appears in form to resemble a domestic cat, May said it was much bigger than any he had ever seen.

May has shared his footage online in the hope that others may recognise the animal.

'About three feet long'

“I don’t know what it was but it had a long tail and it was the size that stood out. It didn’t look small. I was with someone else at the time who got quite close to it," May said.

“It just literally came out of the hedge and I caught sight of it from the corner of my eye. I then sent the drone straight over there.

“I go to the fields most days but I’ve never seen it there before.

"There have been carcasses of rabbits around and, at this time of year, I don’t think those would have been caused by a fox.”

Stuart Wilton, 36, also of Launceston, said he managed to walk up behind the creature.

“I said to Ashley, ‘That cat is massive’. I wandered into the field until I was just five feet away from it. It was about three feet long. It wasn’t a panther or anything like that.”

Wilton said that it resembled in size pictures of a large cat caught on camera in west Cornwall.
