Snow and ice warning issued for Lancashire after Storm Bella batters Britain

The Met Office has issued a snow and ice warning covering the whole of Lancashire.

The warning comes after snow and hail showers wreaked havoc on Britain's roads yesterday (December 27), with multiple collisions forcing stretches of the M6 to close.

Meteorologists have warned ice is likely to form on untreated roads during Monday night (December 28), as well as up to 5cm of snow over high ground.

The yellow weather warning, which covers all of Lancashire, is in place from 6pm this evening (December 28) until 10am tomorrow morning (December 29).

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces during Monday night, especially where showers move well inland.

"Some of the showers will be wintry and could produce 2 to 5 cm lying snow above 250 metres, mostly over the Pennines and North York Moors where up to 10cm is possible.

"Elsewhere, most places will see little or no snow, but a slight covering of a centimetre or so is possible in a few places."
