The warning comes after snow painted the Red Rose county white yesterday (Saturday, January 23), with readers sharing their photos of the wintry scenes.

It means icy patches may form on untreated roads, especially where snow has already fallen, leading to difficult travel conditions.

These icy patches may also cause some injuries from slips and falls.

The yellow weather warning for ice covers most of the county and is currently in place from midnight tonight (January 24) until 11am tomorrow (Monday, January 25).

A spokesman said: "We have weather predictions of snow/ice and temperatures reaching minus 5C.

"We will apply salt to all priority routes."
