Headteacher Dave McPartlin led pupils and staff in Flakefleet Primary School’s own distinctive version of Fat Les’ Vindaloo, which was a big hit during the 1998 World Cup.

In the footage lasting almost four minutes, staff and youngsters at the Fleetwood school are clad in red and white headbands and bandanas and with faces painted red and white as they are filmed dancing through the corridors and playground.

As England and the nation shaped up for Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia the video attracted thousands of views and was shared extensively via social media.

The World Cup video follows a similar celebration at Flakefleet of May’s Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Then, staff and pupils staged two mock weddings at Fleetwood Methodist Church - one for the juniors and one for the infants - complete with horse-drawn carriages and a helicopter.

It was followed by a reception in the school hall where every pupil received a Union flag cup and plate, a crown and a packed lunch.

Mr McPartlin said: “It’s all about giving the children a wonderful experience they will never forget.”

Other schools have also been busy entering into the World Cup spirit, including two Lancashire teachers writing and committing to video a song called Sir Bobby in tribute to the late England boss who was in charge the last time England reached a semi-final, under the name Two n Half Lions.

Vindaloo was co-written by Blur bassist Alex James and part-time Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt, with lyrics by comedian Keith Allen.

It reached No 2 in 1998, being held off the top by the Lightning Seeds’ Three Lions, which has gone to No 1 for a third time this week.
