He said: “Can anyone tell me why you would vandalise a hive and kill 3,000 bees from the cold overnight?

“What kind of morons would take any pleasure from this?

“I hope they have a few bee stings as souvenirs.

“This colony has struggled through the winter, but were thriving until this happened.

“If anyone saw anything at the park between 6pm and 11pm please call us in the office.

“Hopefully, when I do the next inspection, the queen has survived.”

And he has appealed for visitors to the nature park to call the police on 101 if they see any suspicious behaviour.

In 2016 a special bee-friendly environment was created at the park on the banks of the River Wyre

A special meadow seed mix of British wildflowers and grasses has been planted to provide a haven for bees and other insects, as part of a national campaign to halt the decline of the UK’s native wild bee population.

The park has a bee-friendly nectar garden containing flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables selected to attract wildlife and ensure a continuous supply of nectar and pollen from spring through to autumn.
