Warning over wild drivers and wildlife

Motorists are being told to stop '˜racing' on a stretch of road and warned it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.

County Councillor Andrea Kay says she has seen first hand the dangers of speeding on Amounderness Way and is particularly concerned about a stretch where new junctions have been installed.

During a site survey visit she witnessed one accident on the road, which links Fleetwood to the M55.

And with a string of pedestrian crossings and busy junctions between the Cleveleys roundabout and Bourne Way, Coun Kay is concerned about the way some people are treating the road.

Drivers have to stop racing,” she said.

“We have a big problem on Amounderness Way

“It’s particularly bad between the junctions at West Drive and Bourne Road but we have people racing from the Morrisons roundabout.

“Drivers need to be more vigilant, there are some people going far too fast and there’s going to be a big accident.”

Coun Kay saw just how dangerous things could be on a routine visit.

“I was down there on a highways meeting.

“There was an accident right there in front of me, somebody just ran into the back of another car at the lights.

“I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

The accident wasn’t the only disruption during Coun Kay’s visit.

Another danger, out of the control of motorists, nearly saw her knocked off her feet.

“While we were on the site visit I was almost knocked over by a deer,” said the Lancashire County councillor.

“It came from nowhere and ran across the road.

“I called Farmer Parrs and they said it wasn’t one of their animals.

“I can only think it must have been a wild deer.

“That’s another thing drivers will have to be on the lookout for.”
