Man dies after roundabout crash in Amounderness Way
A man has died after a crash on a roundabout in Poulton yesterday afternoon (Sunday, December 13).
The man, aged in his 60s and from Hambleton, was pronounced dead at hospital after the crash on the River Wyre roundabout at 2.30pm.
Police said he had been circling the roundabout in a Mini Cooper when he is believed to have suffered a sudden medical episode at the wheel.
The Mini crashed into a van and emergency services were called to the scene, where paramedics tried to save his life with CPR.
He was then taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
Amounderness Way was shut for two hours between the Norcross and River Wyre roundabouts whilst emergency services worked at the scene.
A police spokesman said: "We were called at 2.30pm yesterday (December 13) to a two-vehicle collision at the River Wyre Roundabout, Poulton-le-Fylde involving a silver Mini Cooper and an Iveco Daily.
"The driver of the Mini, a man in his 60s from the Hambleton area, was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.
"It appears he may have suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.
"Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call 101, quoting 0720 of December 13, 2020."
An ambulance service spokesman added: "We received an emergency call at 2.28pm, an ambulance and an advanced paramedic attended the scene. One patient was taken to hospital."
Drivers were asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes before the road reopened at around 4.30pm.
