POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 38-year-old man Fleetwood mandied in a road traffic collision.

The incident occurred around 10.40am on Saturday when a man driving a black Daewoo Lanos has driven down Squires Gate Lane before colliding with a gatepost at the beginning of the sea wall on New South Promenade.

Sadly the man, named by police as Jeffrey Martin from Fleetwood, was taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital with multiple injuries but died around two hours later.

Sergeant Mick Young from the Road Policing Unit said: “An investigation is underway into the full circumstances of what has happened but I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101.

“We believe Mr Martin had been sat in his car parked up on Squires Gate Lane, behind the tram station, facing the beach for around two hours prior to the collision so I’d also be keen to hear from anybody that thinks saw him this morning.”

The end of Squires Gate Lane was closed for around three hours to allow officers to carry out an investigation of the scene.
