Lancashire’s 192,000 smokers are being urged to quit the habit on Wednesday – No Smoking Day.

The theme this year is ‘I’m proud to be a quitter’ to encourage people to take inspiration from the 6,000 smokers who successfully quit last year.

Around a fifth of the county’s population smoke, which is more than the national average.

The North Lancashire service to help smokers pack it in, is provided by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is free for residents of North Lancashire, the Fylde coast and Wyre.

And the service can provide help with counselling as well as providing medicine, gum or patches designed to help smokers give up and stay off smoking for life.

Anyone wanting to quit can call the North Lancashire Stop Smoking Service on 01524 845145.
