CIVIC leaders today revealed their shock at the discovery of a cannabis factory in Knott End.
Police raided a house in a bungalow in Kingston Close around 10.30am on Monday and found £15,000 worth of the drug, along with cultivation equipment.
County Coun Bob Mutch, who represents Wyreside ward, said: “It’s just unbelievable – drugs are reaching everywhere now.
“It seems they will do anything to produce it.
“It upsets me to see something like this in Knott End.
“The problem is the punishment when these people get caught – nine times out of 10 they don’t seem to get punished.
“I hope people aren’t intimidated by this, and, like this time, will report anything to the police.
“If not, this stuff could reach schools and that would be awful.”
No arrests have yet been made.
Anyone with information about drugs is asked to contact police on 0845 1253545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
