Town centre and business improvement district (BID) manager Eileen Ormand said: “Blackpool BID is always looking for family entertainment and Sci Fi Saturday promises to be great fun for all the family.

“The chance to see Star Wars the Force Awakens for free on a big outdoor screen is likely to attract a big audience and we are looking forward to an exciting day.

“The morning there will be some surprises throughout the day so don’t miss out, come on down to St John’s Square and join in all the fun.”

The event has been planned to compliment the opening of the Scene Movie Exhibition in the Winter Gardens which opens at 10am on Saturday.

The action starts on St John’s Square from noon and throughout the afternoon, an outdoor cinema screen will be showing the latest Star Wars movie – The Force Awakens.

The star of the event though looks set to be Titan the Robot who is making a triumphant return to Blackpool.

The huge robot will stride around the square, accompanied by Sci Fi film characters, including Transformers’ Optimus Prime
