Rotary's young guard in first for North West

The town already has a thriving number of school-age RotaKids and older high school children, Interact.

Now Fleetwood Rotary has set up a Rotaract Club for members aged 18 to 30.

The new group has its roots in Rotary’s highly successful high school groups, whose members have now left school but wanted to keep activities going.

Jane Leatherbarrow, a member of the group, said “We have already been involved in Interact and we wanted to start a Rotaract Club where like-minded individuals can team up together to help better our community.

“We also have fun and it’s a way to bridge the generation gap to link with our older Rotary members.

“This the first Rotaract group to be set up in the North West district, so we are quite proud of that.”

Rotaract, whose name is cross between Rotary and Interact, offers a wide range of activities which will enable young people to try something new, while making new friends.

Malcolm Lewis, spokesman for Fleetwood Rotary Club, commented: “Every primary school in Fleetwood has a Rotakids group and Interact is a big success too.

“This has helped create such a strong interest in Rotaract.”

The Rotaract group is already well organised and has a charity quiz night organised for July 13.
