Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said the eight governors would represent local people, give advice and support, and influence decisions made on future healthcare in Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, and beyond.

Elections will be held in August and will see governors split across the area covered by the trust.

Chairman Ian Johnson said: “Governors bring a wealth of expertise, experience and ideas which are essential to ensuring the effective development of our NHS foundation trust moving forwards.

“They ensure the trust is managed appropriately and they have a number of key responsibilities including the appointment of the chairman, non-executive directors and external auditors, and holding the board to account.”

He continued: “Under the Health and Social Care Act, a majority of governors will be required to approve any significant investment decisions and they are vital in representing the interests of our patients and the public.”

A seminar will be held in the Education Centre Lecture Theatre at Blackpool Victoria Hospital from 6 to 7pm on Tuesday, April 5.
