The event takes place at Fleetwood Rugby Club on Saturday June 4 and will raise funds for the charity A Soldiers Journey, set up by Blackpool ex-serviceman Sgt Rick Clement.

Rick lost his legs in a bomb blast in Helmand in 2010 and in the years since has been working to try and raise money for other injured soldiers.

The highlight of the day is The Paul Didsbury Memorial game, named after Paul Didsbury, a member of the 21st Royal Signals regiment who died in 2005 after a tragic accident in the Iraqi city of Basra.

Paul, who attended Baines High School in Poulton and lived for a time in Fleetwood, once played for Fleetwood Rugby Club.

The event is being organised by Zac Cooke, from the charity A Soldier’s Journey.

He said: “Aside from the rugby events there will be a fairground, an auction and plenty of food on the day and The Army will have an exhibition there as well.”

Admission will cost £2 but entry for children is free.
